Two Months In: My Journey at Newmanor Law

Our latest paralegal Lakshan Satheeskumar, describes their first two month’s here at Newmanor Law and so far so good it would appear, from the obvious enthusiasm to learn on display.

As I approach the two-month mark as a paralegal at Newmanor Law, it is the hands-on experience that is really shaping my time here—an aspect I love. From the moment I arrived, Karen and James greeted me with open arms, making me feel instantly part of the team. Their openness to questions, along with the warmth of everyone else here, creates an environment that fosters learning and growth. I also really enjoy our morning and afternoon team talks. These moments offer more than just work updates—they provide an opportunity to speak about non-work related topics too, which builds camaraderie and team spirit.

My colleagues, Edmund, Mandy, Ella and Kai are amazing to work with. They are always available to assist when needed, making the teamwork dynamic strong. One of the first tasks I took on was setting up new transactions, which involves reviewing documentation and capturing the details we need to run the deal efficiently.

A few days in, I was asked to produce the first draft of a report on title for a loan from one of our lender clients to assist with a borrower’s property purchase and refurbishment. Initially, this was a daunting task, but with Edmund’s guidance and feedback, I was able to complete it to a high standard. The experience taught me which documents I need to review and helped me understand what the client is specifically looking for in the report. With that newfound knowledge, my next report on title for a similar loan transaction was produced more quickly, and I still maintained the high quality expected.

Newmanor’s welcoming environment, paired with the incredible guidance I am receiving from the team, is truly invaluable. The team’s support throughout the deals is more than just instructional. They are helping me understand not only the ‘why’ behind what I am doing now, but also what I can improve on to build a stronger career for the future.

There are so many rewarding aspects of this role. I am enjoying staying on top of emails with clients—though at times it can feel confusing—and the completion process for deals always brings me satisfaction. I will never forget the warm congratulations from the team after my first completion; it was such a motivating moment, pushing me to further refine my skills to help Newmanor succeed.

One particular area where I have noticed the most growth is in my attention to detail. Whether it is picking up errors or making changes to the transaction documents, or ensuring everything is as it should be for our Companies House (MR01) and Land Registry (AP1) applications, I am learning the importance of precision. Through careful analysis and being thorough, I am catching errors and making amendments to documents, which feels like a real accomplishment every time.

It is an incredibly rewarding journey I am on, and it is exciting to continue growing with Newmanor, helping to deliver high quality work and build meaningful relationships along the way.
